Bare trees along the frozen braided river in Alaska.
Sentry
It was October and the braided rivers were frozen. I was traveling from Fairbanks to Delta Junction on the Richardson Highway and pulled over to look at the scenery. Some people might call it bleak, I called it stunning! I was looking hundreds of miles away, across frozen rivers with blue ice underneath. Trees were getting their winter coats on many of the little islands in the rivers. What struck me was the bare trees overlooking this majestic scenery. You can barely make out the mountains in the far distance.
It was taken with black and white film (I use to take a small point and shoot along with me to show me the colors of what I was taking with the black and white film) and printed on fiber based photo paper. That paper was treated with turpentine to accept the transparent oils. Painting was done with a small homemade q-tip and took approximately 40 hours.
